Troop 390 Announcements Archive
February 8, 2009

Troop 390 Members and Parents,

1.  Klondike a Big Success!  Troop 390 returned from Klondike 2009 and had a big
success.  Our two patrols, the Hobnobbing Dextrophobics, and the Quadrilaterals, ran
1st and 3rd place on their skill trail, respectively.  Since they were both on the same trail,
they were competing with each other as much as with the other patrols from other
Troops.  Congratulations to the patrol leaders and all of the boys for working hard.

Our sled racing teams did not do as well, as they were aced out at the first turn on the
course and couldn't catch up to the leaders.  Likewise, our snowsnake competitors
couldn't quite deal with the slushy snow they were throwing in and quickly were
eliminated.  Finally, in a new part of the competition, our two patrols built and raced slot
cars.  One of the cars was very far ahead in the final heat but unfortunately flew off the
track right near the end, and so was disqualified.

All in all, we had a great time.  Thanks to the 10 Troop members who attended.  Thanks
also to all of the dads and other adults who helped drive and on the trails:  Brian Bennett;
Ed Chandler; Paul Christensen; John Donahue; Tom Lasky; Paul Sherburne; and Tom
Sherburne.

2.  First Aid Merit Badge workshop February 9.  Tomorrow night, February 9, we will
have a First Aid Merit Badge training night for all Troop members who do not yet have
First Aid Merit Badge.  All boys who are planning on attending the First Aid Merit Badge
already have this Merit Badge should also attend to teach the First Aid Merit Badge skills.

3.  Order of the Arrow Election February 16.  We will have our Election for the Order of
the Arrow at our Troop meeting on February 16.  The Order of the Arrow is the Boy
Scouts' National Honor Society for Camping.  Three of our Troop members are
members of the Order of the Arrow, and many other members of the Troop are eligible
to be elected.

We need a very good attendance from the Troop to hold our election on the 16th, so all
Troop members should make a very special effort to be at our meeting on the 16th.

Call Mr. Herbers with any questions.

Troop 390 Members and Parents,

1.  Klondike Form attached.  Please see the attached form for everyone (youth and
adults) who will attend Klondike.  We need this form to be turned in at the next Troop
meeting on February 2 as we prepare for Klondike.  Please print it off, fill it out, and bring
it to the meeting.  If you can't print it off, we will have extra forms at the meeting.

Right now we have 12 Troop members planning on attending Klondike.  We need extra
drivers both to take kids and gear up to Klondike on Friday night, and to bring boys and
gear back on Sunday morning.

2.  Parish Spaghetti Dinner, Sunday January 25, 5 - 7 p.m., Donovan Hall.  Troop 390
has volunteered to help bus tables and clean up at the Parish Spaghetti Dinner Sunday
evening.  Troop members should help out as much of the 2-hour event as possible.  This
is a non-uniform event.  These service hours will help all boys who are working on
advancements in rank, and can also count for the Citizenship in the Community Merit
Badge.

3.  Archery Outing, Saturday, January 31, 2:30 - 3:30, Westtown Archery.  We need to
know how many Troop members plan to join us for archery at Westtown Archery next
Saturday.  We can drive together from St. Monica's (leaving at 2 p.m.) or meet there.
Either way, we need everyone who plans to attend to call or e-mail Mr. Herbers what
their plans are.

4.  New Outing being planned:  Put May 2 - 3 on your calendar!  We're working on a
white-water rafting outing on the Peshtigo River near Crivitz.  More details to follow.

Call Mr. Herbers with any questions.
