Troop 390 Members and Parents,
Please remember that tomorrow night, June 7, we have a special event.
Join us for a special program on falconry and joint meeting of the three Whitefish Bay
Boy Scout Troops, 390, 398, 400.
Date: Monday, June 7, 2010
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Whitefish Bay Middle School, Old Gym (or outside, weather permitting)
Our featured event is a demonstration of falconry by Air Force Cadet Ryan Wichman.
Ryan, a former Boy Scout, graduated from Greenfield HS in 2007, and is now attending
the Air Force Academy. One of his duties is to train and care for the school mascot, the
falcon. Ryan will be in Milwaukee in June with the falcon for to meet with organizations
and schools to explain the falconry program. Because he was a Boy Scout, he specifically
asked to present the program at Boy Scout meetings.
We’re also excited that, as far as we know, this is the first time all three Whitefish Bay
troops have gotten together for a joint meeting – it’s great to do this in Scouting’s
centennial year. The SPL’s of the three troops got together to plan the meeting. Thanks to
SPL Richard H., for coordinating that meeting.
All boys should be in uniform to mark this special meeting.
Thanks, and we'll see everyone tomorrow night.

Troop 390 Members and Parents,
We will have our regular Troop meeting Monday evening, May 24, at 7 p.m. in
Donovan Hall.
This is an extremely important meeting for all Troop members, and most especially for
those boys who will attend Summer Camp.
We will be filling out merit badge cards to pre-register boys for their merit badge classs
at Summer Camp. Without pre-registration, the boys may not be able to get into the merit
badge classes they want.
Also, we need all boys and adults who plan to spend time at Summer Camp to turn in
their medical forms. There is a link to the forms on the troop's website, www.troop390.
com, on the "Forms" page. The link is:
http://troop390.com/Forms/AnnualHealthandMedicalRecord.pdf
These medical forms must be submitted by July 1 so we can make necessary copies for
our files and have them ready for Summer Camp.
There is still room for more boys to sign up for Summer Camp, but we'll need the
registration forms and payment by Monday to make sure we can get everything in place.

Troop 390 Members and Parents:
1. Next Troop meeting is tomorrow night, May 10, 7 p.m. in Donovan Hall. All Scouts
should return any Troop equipment, especially tents, that they have.
2. Special Troop meeting June 7. On Monday evening, June 7, the 3 Troops in
Whitefish Bay will hold a joint meeting. A special guest will be at the meeting. The guest is
a cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He will have the
USAFA's mascot, a falcon, with him. More details will follow. However, we need to
know about how many Troop members and parents will plan to attend so we have enough
room for all 3 Troops, guests, and the falcon!
3. Welcome to new Troop member Joe J., who joined us at our Greenbush camp-out
and hike. Great to have you in the Troop, Joe!
If any Troop members know any of their friends who might want to join, please
encourage them to come to a meeting and check us out. It's not too late to join the Troop
and come to Summer Camp in July. See below for information about Summer Camp.
4. Congratulations to Troop members Richard H., Eddie P., and Joe S. who became
Brotherhood members of Mikano Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. Also, congratulations
to Troop member Michael C. who became an Ordeal member of the Lodge. These boys
join the ranks of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's national honor society promoting
camping, and exemplify "cheerful service" in their Scouting.
5. Summer Camp reservations are still being taken. We have 5 boys signed up to go to
LeFeber Northwoods Camp from Saturday, July 17 - July 24. Cost is $245 and the more
boys who go, the merrier! Thanks to Mr. Mike Pencak and Mr. Jim Gomez for
volunteering to lead the Troop at Summer Camp while Scoutmaster John Herbers is at the
Boy Scout National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia.
6. White-water rafting trip cancelled. We unfortunately have to cancel the whitewater
rafting trip that was scheduled for next week-end due to conflicts. If the boys are
interested, we could put together a bike trip or hike for either Saturday or Sunday. We
will discuss at the Troop meeting tomorrow night.
4/29/2010
Troop 390 Members and Parents,
We have volunteered to help out with the annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll
distribution this week-end at all of the Masses at St. Monica's. Troop 390 has been
helping the Knights of Columbus for many years as they raise funds for mentally challenged
children and adults in our community.
Many of our Troop members will be at a Jamboree camp-out all week-end and so are
unavailable to help. We need all other members of the Troop to help out for at least 1 of
the Masses this week-end. You are welcome to distribute Tootsie-Rolls at 2 or even 3
Masses if you want!
Anyone who can help should meet in the back of Church right after Communion to get a
smock, Tootsie Rolls, and instructions. Boys are busy for maybe 15 - 20 minutes at the
end of each Mass, and it's a big help.
Please look for Mr. Gomez, or Mr. Pencak or one of the other Troop leaders in the
back of church.
Thanks a lot for serving St. Monica's, the Knights of Columbus, and all the people they
serve.

Troop 390 Members and Parents,
We hope everyone had a great Easter break.
1. Greenbush Camp-out and Hike. Our next Troop meeting is Monday, April 12.
Assistant Scoutmasters Gomez and Pencak will work with the boys to get ready for the
camp-out next weekend.
Attached is a parent information sheet about the camp-out. Please call Scoutmaster
Herbers with any questions.
We are still able to accomodate more boys who might want to attend the Greenbush
camp-out and hike, but have not signed up yet. This camp-out and 5-mile hike is a great
outing for new Scouts since we will be working on many of the Tenderfoot, Second Class
and First Class requirements over the course of the week-end. The camp-out is also very
helpful for older Scouts who want to teach skills to the younger Scouts and earn
requirements for their own advancement. The cost of the week-end is $20 and sign-up
sheets will be available at the meeting tomorrow night. We will need the sign-ups Monday
at the latest since we will be shopping for the food Tuesday night.
2. Coin Collecting Merit Badge Clinic. Any of the boys who wants to take the Coin
Collecting Merit Badge Clinic on Saturday, May 1, should let Scoutmaster Herbers know
right away so he can sign them up. There is a newspaper article that must be reviewed
before the Clinic, and Mr. Herbers will provide a copy to all the boys who are attending
the Coin Collecting Merit Badge Clinic. This is a great merit badge especially for younger
Scouts to work on.
3. Summer Camp! Finally, we are still looking for Summer Camp reservations. The
dates are July 17 - 24. We can still qualify for the lowest sign-up cost ($220) if you let me
know today (Sunday April 11); reservations received the 12th or later will have a $25 late
fee (charged by the Scout Office).
Thanks, and call with questions.

Troop 390 Members and Parents,
1. A huge "Thanks" to all of the boys and parents who helped distribute bags for the
Scouting for Food "Good Turn" yesterday. Helpers included Ed Chandler, Paul
Christensen, Scott Dobak, Pat Dragani, Jim Gomez, Dave Marshall and Gabe Martinez-
Ortiz. We had 9 boys who helped run the bags around, so thanks to them also.
We will need helpers this coming Saturday, the 27th, to pick up the bags in the same area
that we dropped them off in. It's a big area, so we can really use a lot of help with drivers.
We'll meet at the school parking lot at 8:30 again on Saturday morning and go from there.
2. Our next regular Troop meeting is a week from tomorrow night, the 29th, at 7 p.m. in
Donovan Hall.
3. All of the boys who are working on the Ad Altare Dei award have a meeting tomorrow
night, Monday the 22nd, at 6:30 with Fr. Jerry. And they have a day of reflection, service
project and group Mass on Saturday the 27th. Religious Awards counselor Paul
Christensen has contacted all of the boys who are working on this award directly with
details.
4. Our next 2 Troop outings include a camp-out and 5-mile hike at Greenbush from
Friday, April 16 - Sunday the 18th. This is a great event for all of the newer Scouts since
we will be working on many of the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First
Class during the week-end. It is also helpful for the older boys who are working on the
Communications Merit Badge which is an Eagle-required badge. We only have a couple
of boys signed up for this event so far. We need to get the reservations in by the meeting
on March 29 or we'll have to cancel. The cost is $20/boy. Adults are not charged.
Also, we have a whitewater rafting trip planned on the Peshtigo River on Saturday, May
15. Jon Lehrman has invited us to camp at his cottage in Mountain, Wisconsin (just 20
minutes away) overnight on either or both of Friday and Saturday nights. We need to
know how many boys are planning on attending so we can reserve enough rafting slots
with Kosir's and give Dr. Lehrman enough advanced notice for his own planning. We will
need a good head-count for the rafting trip by March 29 so we can get our reservations
in. The cost is $50/person (Kosir's charges all rafters, so we do too).
5. Knights of Columbus Tootsie-Roll hand-out. The week-end of May 1 - 2, the Knights
of Columbus has asked us to help distribute Tootsie-Rolls as part of its annual fund-raiser.
We need 5-6 boys to help out after each of the 5 p.m., 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Masses
those days. Please put this event on your calendars.
6. Summer Camp. Finally, Summer Camp is less than 4 months away. We go to
LeFeber Northwoods Camp in Laona, Wisconsin from Saturday July 17 - 24. All boys
who want to attend should get their reservation forms in by the March 29 meeting so that
they can get the "early bird" price of $220. After that the cost goes up by $25 since the
Council raises the price in April (and again in June). Adults are not charged for their time
at Summer Camp. Parents are extremely welcome to join the Troop for all or any part of
the week. Make your plans now!

Just a quick note to remind you about tomorrow night's Troop 390 meeting - 7 p.m. in
Donovan Hall. See you then.
Also, a big thanks to everyone who helped at the Fish Fry.
And we really need lots of help for Saturday's Scouting for Food bag distribution. We will
meet at 8:30 Saturday morning at St. Monica parking lot and go from there.
3/6/2010
Several quick notes:
1. We'd like to welcome two new members of our Troop, Ben D. and Theo K. Both are
in 5th Grade, and we hope to have 3-4 more of the 5th graders join our Troop soon.
2. Our next event is a Service Opportunity this coming Friday from 5 - 7, when the Parish
Fish Fry is happening. We have been asked to serve food, and bus tables. All members
of the Troop are asked to help out. This is a non-uniform event. Please let me know if
you can help. Parents are also welcome.
3. Saturday, March 20 and March 27 is Scouting for Food. Scouting for Food is the
largest single-day food drive in the country, and in Milwaukee we are hoping to collect 200
tons of food to distribute to Second Harvest of Wisconsin. We really need help on the
20th to distribute the bags. We will meet at St. Monica parking lot at 8:30 both mornings.
We need parents to drive, and boys to help pass out the bags on the 20th. Please let me
know which days you can help. The more drivers and boys we have, the quicker the work
will go.
4. All boys who would like to work on the Coin Collecting Merit Badge can get the
information about the Coin Collecting Merit Badge Clinic. This clinic will be held
Saturday, May 1, at the Midwest Airlines Center downtown. This merit badge is a great
one for newer Scouts to earn early in their career. We will post information about the
Clinic on the Troop's website, or you can go to the Council's website, www.mccbsa.org,
to get more details.
5. We have camp-outs in April and May. Sign-up sheets are available at all Troop
meetings, or on the Troop's website, www.troop390.com/activities.htm.
6. Don't forget Summer Camp, from Saturday July 17 - Saturday July 24. The sign-up
form is also on the Troop's website.
7. Next Troop meeting is Monday, March 15 at 7 p.m. in Donovan Hall. See you there!
Please reply to let us know if you will:

Klondike is a Big Success! We had a great time at the Polaris District Vista Klondike this
past week-end. Six of our Troop members and three 5th Grade Webelos spent the week-
end at Camp Vista and did very well on the Yukon Trail. We also had one fourth-grade
Webelo join us for the day. Great to see Javier M-O!
The boys also participated in the Snow Snake Competition and Sled Race, taking 3rd
place in the sled race. It was a great time. Special thanks go to Assistant Scoutmaster
Mike Pencak who drove both ways and spent the week-end with us, and Assistant
Scoutmaster Gabriel Martinez-Ortiz who came up for the day on Saturday. Also special
thanks to Jim Gomez and Jim Kachelski who brought their sons along for the week-end.
And thanks to Mr. Ed Chandler for driving up and back on Friday with a load of boys and
gear!
Our next meeting is Monday night, February 15. This is an extremely important meeting,
and all Troop members should make an extra effort to attend. We will have our Summer
Camp Kick-off when we start making plans for Summer Camp this year. We will also
hold our Order of the Arrow Election for new candidates to be elected to Mikano Lodge
of the Order of the Arrow. All members of Mikano Lodge should attend and wear their
OA sashes.
Also, 5th-grade Webelos should attend the meeting if they can, to begin learning about
Summer Camp.
Summer Camp will run from Saturday July 17 - Saturday July 24, and will be held at
LeFeber Northwoods Camp near Laona, Wisconsin. Members of our Troop who will be
attending Jamboree can spend a day or two at Summer Camp if they wish (and if they can
arrange transportation) before they return to Milwaukee and head off to the Jamboree on
July 21. More details will be provided at our meeting on the 15th.
Last note: Pack 390 is holding its Blue and Gold Dinner on Thursday evening, February
25. Members of our Troop are asked to attend to help serve dinner, and to welcome the
5th Grade Webelos who will be "crossing over" from the Pack into the Troop that night.
Please reply to let me know if you will be attending the Blue & Gold Dinner.

We will have a regular Troop Meeting Monday evening, January 18. This
is the first of 2 meetings to prepare for Klondike. We need all troop
members to attend.
If you haven't turned in your reservation form, please do so
immediately. We are at risk of not having enough boys to secure the chapel
basement for our Troop. We will have extra forms available at the meeting,
and they are also on the Troop's web-site. A huge thanks to Assistant
Scoutmaster Robert Jacobson for getting the web-site back up and running
again.
Also, don't forget the Parish's Spaghetti Dinner, on January 31.
Helpers will be very welcome.
01/07/2010
Troop 390 Members and Parents:
We will have our January outing at West Town Archery this coming Saturday, January 9,
at 1:15 for an hour of archery shooting. No experience required. Cost is $5/person.
Parents are also welcome to join us, and to shoot.
The 5th Grade Webelos are also invited to join us if they'd like. The equipment at West
Town is appropriate for boys as young as 10 or 11.
West Town Archery is located at 6795 West Burleigh. See you there!
Please send back your forms for the Klondike outing on February 5 - 7 right away. As of
now, we only have 5 boys signed up and need more if we are going to be able to use the
Chapel basement for our sleeping area.
